Going into a Rehab

November 7th, 2007

Let’s get real. Removing your addiction from your system is not a joke. Withdrawals can be manifested and can even bring emotional  stress. Finding healthy replacements and getting yourself busy won’t be enough. This are just simple thoughts to show how addiction can be serious, making an addicted individual feel incomplete without it.

But it is not really hopeless in the cases of someone who is addict. In fact there are other effective means to stop the addiction like getting into a rehab. Meeting people who used to be an addict,  I personally  find this as one of the best means to heal your addiction. Here’s why:

Rehab

1. You live in a community with people who can relate to you. When you decide to finally let go of your addiction, you’ll have to adopt to a new system where your body will no longer be supplemented with synthetics. With this, there can be unexpected times when you get shaky, looking for that thing that put you to temporary satisfaction. As this gets worse, you can be emotionally shaky and clearly, you’ll be needing someone who can relate to your experience, the best person who can help you to get steady.

2. There are professionals who can help you. Having a professional around will give you the idea of the core of your addiction and the reasons behind it. And this won’t be a useless information since realizing the very reason of your addiction will give you more solutions for your problems.

The Advantage of Teenage Sex

November 7th, 2007

Premarital Sex

It isn’t like the famous belief that pre-marital sex, especially among teenagers are caused by drugs and other negative factors putting them into situation. Or perhaps, it may bring them into illegal habits after performing an intimate act with their partner. But guess what, this infamous idea can be false since there is a solid study done to prove this wrong.

Lead researcher Kathryn Paige Hayden, a Ph.D candidate of clinical psychology from University of Virginia finds out that teenagers who have sex during their adolescence are more likely avoid delinquency at their early adulthood.

534 same-sex twin pairs of 1994 and 2002 were observed and from there, a result stating that teenagers who have undergone teenage sex can more easily have nurture socialization, is established.

Kinds of Journal

November 4th, 2007

One of the best therapies one can have, journals are meant to keep the individual’s thoughts locked in its pages. In general, these are intended for a private property, but there are those who don;’t mind sharing it with the person they trust. However, no matter how it is kept by that individual, it has been proven by thousands of journal-keepers and studies that keeping a record of your thoughts has made a way for self-discovery and healing.

On a different note, journals are not just a mere notebook containing the precious thoughts of its owner. In fact, it varies depending on the purpose of this helpful notebook:

Journal

  1. Dream Journal – A person who owns this record their dreams right after their wake-up. Since dreams come from the subconscious thoughts of the individual, its contents may appear like it’s disorganized and sometimes, it can even make no sense at all. On the other hand, its effect can be the opposite, making you more organized with your conscious thoughts.

  2. Healing Journal – Now this is the type of journal that people use. This is where they express their emotional burden and sufferings – that will eventually help them to move on. Psychologists also assigned their patients, most of which have clinical depression, to track the progress of their psychological condition, and at the same time, help them cope with their depression.

  3. Gratitude Journal – A journal full of positive ideas. Coming from the word itself, the owner expresses his/her appreciation to the things around him and his optimistic views whenever he/she is faced with life’s challenge.

Haven for the Seniors

November 3rd, 2007

Hospitals may be the best place to keep your seniors healthy – doctors who will keep their conditions checked, nurses who will attend to their needs, and well-balanced diet. On the other hand, despite this well-observed treatment, seniors may prefer to just stay at home and have a seat in their backyard than to constantly check their physical state within the walls of the senior community.

Haven for the Seniors

Seniors don’t need a place where they will feel that they are always being observed. Of course, they still want to move freely without someone looking after them. They want to be in some place which they can call a home – the place where they can do want they want and spend their time with fun. On Lok Senior Health Services is one of those communities that keep the old folks into moving with smile on their faces.

Some of the seniors find a home here with their fellow seniors being nursed in their new haven. Social services are given to them, aside from other activities that provide them joy and socialization. And because their health is a precious concern among health professionals, their physical condition will be attended with medical care, visits from a therapist, and nursing supervision.

Pain Management

November 2nd, 2007

Pain Management

$100 billion are spent for medical expenses, lost wages and lost productivity, according to National Institutes of Health, and it’s all because of pain. This proves that things are not what they seem, where certain individuals look perfectly healthy, but suffer from such a pain inside. To add insult to the injury, they are sometimes labels as “addicts” by some people and even physicians because there are some addictive drugs are used to tolerate pain.

Glenda Dysktra, the assistant manager of PainAid, had several experiences about it. Starting as a volunteer for American Pain Foundation, she endured painful instances where she could no longer move, leaving her unproductive. And Dystktra is not alone. In fact, there are 76 million of Americans suffer from various kinds of pain and diseases, according to the said foundation.

Dykstra, together with Susan Sanford of Urbandale – a person who had similar experience with Dykstra led a program to trigger the consciousness of the residents of Iowa about pain management. These two friends were assigned by American Pain Foundation’s Advocacy Workshop.

“It’s an invisible disability,” Sanford said about chronic pain. “It’s a hidden epidemic. We’re hoping to bring about more awareness of what a huge issue this is,” Sanford contends.
