According to the study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, a sleepy brain is prone to lapses and shutdowns as compared to a well rested brain. If a person is lacking a good night sleep, there is a huge risk of shutdown or mental lapse.

What happens is that the brain is in the state of being awake and asleep at the same time. It changes states rapidly and causes the person to have dramatic lapses in attention and visual processing. Based on the study and observation among individuals who lacked sleep, the lapses render the brain incapable of fully fending off the involuntary drive to sleep.

This study has clearly displayed how dangerous lack of sleep is especially when driving in a freeway. A four second lapse can cause a major accident that could cost lives. As a reminder, please get that good sleep and make sure that you are well rested before doing anything else.
