There was a Dutch woman who managed to live for 115 years of age. The stunning thing is the fact that she remained mentally sharp throughout her life span and she had a very healthy brain when she passed away.

Her brain showed almost no evidence of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The researchers have observed that the limits of the human cognitive function may extend far beyond the range which is being enjoyed by most individuals.

During her 80’s, the woman have made arrangements that when she died, she would like her body to be donated to science. When she turned 111, she was wary that she might not be able to help out because she is too old. On the other hand, the scientists said that they are more interested because of her old age. When examinations were ran when she was 112 and 113, the neurological and psychological exams returned all normal. She showed signs of a healthy elder at the age of 60. There were no traces of dementia or problems with memory or attention. Her mental capacity was above average even for adults between 60 to 75.

Suicides gone wrong

Suicide attempt is just a step away from merely executing the act of taking one’s life away. However, there are times that things do not go was intended and it ended up in a mess. Here are a few of the suicide attempts that gone wrong.

This is a picture of a man who tried to kill himself with a 30-aught-six. When he was asked how much he wanted to die, he said he wanted it badly. He said it was the worse kind of wanting to just die. He said that he tried it once and he said that he would not do it again. It appears to me that he had learned his lesson the hard way and he has to live with it.

Who would ever forget the attempted suicide of famed actor Owen Wilson. To many, his luxurious life seem to be a ticket to happiness but then, depression took its toll. Media backed off as to what the reason would be but then, therapy would indeed be very beneficial when it comes to emotional distress such as what Owen Wilson experienced.

Terrell Owens is the flashy wide receiver of the Dallas Cowboys. He attempted to kill himself by an overdose of prescription pain killers which were given to him to aid an injury. He admitted that he was really trying to kill himself. He was treated in the emergency room because of the adverse reaction to the painkillers. This happened back in 2006.

Hip-hop artist Houston once attempted suicide by jumping off his 13th floor room. He was seen and the security were able to stop him and he was then transferred to a lower floor. He locked himself and then he took his eye out. In one of his talks, he kept on saying that he is Jesus and he wants to come home to his father.

Looking back into history, we would find Gen. Hideki Tojo. He fought in the Sino-Japanese war. When he was Prime Minister in 1941, he ordered the surprise attack in the US naval forces in Hawaii. When the war turned its tide, he decided to take his like away by shooting at his chest. Unfortunately, physicians were able to revive him. After the war, he was sentenced to death by hanging by the international tribunal.

Here are a couple of phrases that you would not want to hear from the people surrounding you during your surgery.

1. Better save that. We’ll need it for the autopsy.
2. Someone call the janitor - we’re going to need a mop
3. “Accept this sacrifice, O Great Lord of Darkness”
4. Spot! Spot! Comeback with that! Bad Dog!
5. Wait a minute, if this is his spleen, then what’s that?
6. Hand me that… uh… that uh… thingie.
7. Oh no! I just lost my Rolex.
8. Oops! Hey, has anyone ever survived 500ml of this stuff before?
9. Damn, there goes the lights again…
10. “Ya know, there’s big money in kidneys. Hell, the guy’s got two of ‘em.
11. Everybody stand back! I lost my contact lens!
12. Could you stop that thing from beating; it’s throwing my concentration off.
13. Anyone see where I left that scalpel?
14. I hope his family won’t miss him
15. And now we remove the subject’s brain and place it in the body of the ape.
16. Damn! Page 47 of the manual is missing!
17. Nurse, did this patient sign the organs donation card?
18. Don’t worry. I think it is sharp enough.
19. FIRE! FIRE! Everyone get out!

Based on the findings of a recent study, most of the college students nowadays who are packed with cellular phones feel more safer as compared to those who do not have a mobile phone and they are most likely to take risky walks late in the night. This is very much particular among women.

The students feel less vulnerable when they carry their mobile phones. In the contrary, I think that they are more vulnerable because they pay less attention to their surroundings. This means that criminals may easily find their way if students are taking risks.

When the study was conducted, a couple of people replied in a survey that they could not live without their mobile phones. Also, it gives them a sense of security that makes them more willing to put themselves in risky situations.

But to sum it all up, having a mobile phone may really bring in a sense of security but using it and not paying attention to the environment may be harmful as well.

This joke is quite deep in nature but then, you’ll get the hang of it after reading it. This is pretty hilarious!

Breaking the news gently

An 80 year old man was having his annual checkup and the doctor asked him how he was feeling.
“I’ve never been better!” he boasted. “I’ve got an eighteen year old bride who’s pregnant and having my child!

What do you think about that?”

The doctor considered this for a moment, then said, “Let me tell you a story. I knew a guy who was an avid hunter. He never missed a season. But one day went out in a bit of a hurry and he accidentally grabbed his umbrella instead of his gun.”

The doctor continued, “So he was in the woods and suddenly a grizzly bear appeared in front of him! He raised up his umbrella, pointed it at the bear and squeezed the handle.”

“And do you know what happened?” the doctor queried.

Dumbfounded, the old man replied “No.”

The doctor continued, “The bear dropped dead in front of him!”

“That’s impossible!” exclaimed the old man. “Someone else must have shot that bear.”

“That’s kind of what I’m getting at…” replied the doctor.

Abortion rate leaps

In England and in Wales, the rate of abortions came up in almost all age groups. Surprisingly, teenage girls under the age of 14 are having an abortion at an increased rate of 20 percent. This alarming news calls for a more intensive and government - backed sexual health counseling and boost the availability of contraception services.

Teenagers during this days make choices and they choose abortion instead of motherhood where in fact, they could use contraceptives and not get pregnant at all. The key idea and the alarming fact that this news calls for is to reduce pregnancies among young women.

Hopefully after the breakout of such alarming news, the government would somehow intensify some sexual health counseling and contraception services in order to avoid very young teenage pregnancies which often lead to abortions.

I love getting a massage. For me, a stressful week always ends up good after a good 1 hour massage. But then, what if your massage therapist is actually filming you while you are undressing? Now that is not cool.

After searching the home and computers of Mark E. Boice due to the warrant of arrest for unlawful surveillance, they found a video clip of a woman undressing. The clip was about 3 to 4 minutes long. Just when they thought it was enough, they found a video of a child doing sexual acts. That video was enough to nail him for child pornography.

Boice is currently detained at the Justice Center in lieu of $5000 bail or $10,000 bond. I hope that justice will be served for the woman that he actually filmed and for the poor child that was in that video.

Have you ever been to a soccer event? You should have seen how moms and dads scream and turn into somewhat monsters when their kid just got tangled in the play. I experienced this first hand. But then, it was not soccer.

I played high school basketball back then. When you look at my mom, she’s probably the most decent professional you would ever find. She always smile and generally she has a pretty nice disposition. She has to be that way because she is a Labor Judge. Moving forward, when the opposing team fouls me, there is a huge tendency that she would scream her lungs out and talk trash to the other team. Well, I know she’s my mom and she’s looking after my welfare as a player but often times, I get really embarrassed. Why is this so?

Anger management is something that parents will have to learn about. In the sideline, aggression check should always be practiced. The key idea is to teach parents how to monitor themselves during certain situations in the game.

There was a study that shows a distinct link from those who have road rage and those who are screaming their hearts out during games. The trigger mechanism is pretty much similar to the fact that when someone cuts in. If you are the type of person who goes mad while driving, then you will definitely scream when you watch your child play soccer, or any other sport for that matter.

I had the chance to read up a couple of real life situations about people and while reading about one of the stories in one of my favorite sites, I came to realize that I have encountered people who really lack empathy. Those people are the ones that I truly hate. Oftentimes I would think that they are very eccentric and only cares about themselves.

From the point of view of the people who got really hurt, the feeling of rejection is something that I do not even want to remember anymore. But then, after reading the story, I started to understand what the problem really is. But first, let me tell my side of the story.

I had a girlfriend back when I was in high school. We went steady for 8 long years. But then, I had to work. I was away most of the time because the nature of my job demanded most of my time. We only get to talk more during the weekends. After some time, she ended up cheating on me just when we already have plans of getting married. After a couple of months, I thought I was alright but I was wrong. Due to some strange twist of fate, I got in contact of this guy taht she cheated me with. Amazingly, I thought I was fine. But there was something that he said that made my inner self tick. I hated it. Here are his exact words:

“I just took her feelings into consideration. She loved me.”

Now that struck me like lightning and made me want to give him a barrage of heymakers that would make him literally unrecognizable and even Big John McCarthy could not stop me. It was good that I have maintained a decent friendly relationship with my former girlfriend because if we ended up bad, I might find myself locked up inside a cold prison cell because of homicide.

Having said that, I realized how self-centered he is. If I was in his position, I would never say such a thing. What was he thinking?

I knew right there and then that I needed some counseling. My mind was pretty messed up that time. I felt really good when my therapist told me that she understood how I felt. It was actually nice to know that someone understood me well. To be honest, it felt good.

It was then that I realized that I was faking all the time. I faked that I understood my girlfriend for what she did to me. I got mad but only for a while because I badly wanted her back. I faked when I said I understood her but I never really did.

Right now, I can clearly say that I am suffering from empathy deficiency disorder. After all this time, it was me all along. I’m working on resolving this problem and I am hoping that one day, I would come to understand things more. But I now that when I learn to emphatize, I would end up feeling hurt like what others feel. Maybe, I would truly understand why she left and empathize. It’s quite hard but then that is the answer that I have to find.

Well, this story happened a couple of months ago. And guess what, I finally learned to understand. More importantly, I learned how to forgive. And top it off, I got her back. It’s a win-win situation.
