CUDCP’s purpose is "to promote the advancement of graduate education in Clinical Psychology that produces psychologists who are educated and trained to generate and integrate scientific and professional knowledge and skills so as to further psychological science, the professional practice of psychology, and human welfare" (Bylaws of the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology, 1995, p. 1).
Membership in CUDCP is for "regionally-accredited universities offering scientist-practitioner programs at the doctoral level in Clinical Psychology . . ." (Bylaws of the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology, 1995, p. 2).  CUDCP is incorporated as a non-profit organization in the District of Columbia.  The DCT, or the DCTs designee, is each member program’s representative to CUDCP.  CUDCP has an elected board of nine members, from which the board elects the chair and secretary-treasurer.
In some cases, CUDCP sends a liaison person, typically a member of the CUDCP board, to attend meetings of these other organizations, to maintain other contact as necessary, and to make liaison reports to the CUDCP Board biannually and annually to the membership.

Liaisons are sent to such bodies as APA’s BEA and CAPP, APPIC, ASPPB, NCSPP, and APA’s Division 12.
Similarly, other organizations such as APPIC and NCSPP send liaisons to attend CUDCP’s annual membership meeting.
CUDCP has an annual three-day meeting in the winter months of each year, typically the first weekend in February.
Usually, a "New DCTs" workshop is held on Thursday night, providing an opportunity for those new to the job to obtain information, to discuss their concerns, and to share ideas.  The next two and a half days are devoted to various presentations and discussion of issues relevant to clinical training.  There is typically a banquet on Friday or Saturday evening.  Sunday morning sessions are brief and consist of a plenary session voting on any policies, new business for the organization, and planning for next year’s meeting.
