Childhood obesity may have calmed down

The obesity rate among the young spread like an epidemic between the 1980’s and the 1990’s according to a research. The study was published in the journal of American Medical Association.

There were a lot of factors that the study has uncovered. One of which is the fact that poor health and eating practice was exercised by most American kids. They usually consume heavy fat and sugar and have less consumption of fruits and fresh vegetables. On top of that, they even lacked exercise.

The study also uncovered that obese children are at a high risk of heart problems, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes. There is a huge chance that they will become obese when they turn into adulthood.

It was a numbers game when if comes to racial and ethnic differences. There are 23% of Mexican origin that are found to be obese and likewise, there are 17% blacks and 16% white.

In a more recent research, the number may have leveled off a bit. It may be too soon to say yet but then hopefully, the food campaign and all those advertisements have done wonders in promoting good diet and a healthy lifestyle.
