Foreign Accent Syndrome

In Canada, a woman is recovering from stroke and she was able to suddenly speak in a very different and strange accent. This is one of the first reported cases in Canada regarding a very rare brain syndrome. Her family noticed the accent change two years ago when she was recovering from stroke.

This very rare problem is referred to as the FAS or foreign accent syndrome. The typical cases give the patient an authentic foreign sound but with this Canadian woman, she sounded more like Maritime Canadian English as opposed to her Ontario accent. Researchers said that the syndrome arises from neurological damage in specific parts of the brain.

The puzzle still appears to be a mystery to most researchers and scientists but then, this is a good way to learn more about FAS.
