How a loss affects a child

According to specialists, the loss of a parent means a lot to a child. It can cause them to go through extreme depression and sadness. They coined the term, “double whammy” since it may affect a child both mentally and physically from the shock of loss.

Researchers said that the risk factor that contributed to the death of parents like mental illness can be passed to their children. The children will then be very vulnerable to stress.

TO support their cause, they have found many cases of PTSD or post traumatic stress disorder among the children who lost a parent and none among those with both parents alive. The researchers’ subjects were those whose parents died suddenly and not those who suffered from a long term disease such as cancer. Cancer prepares the children to the fact that their parent could die anytime.

I can clearly attest tot his recent findings and just today, I realized that this is probably the reason why I am so emotional and I rationalize a lot. My father died of heart failure when I was young. Until this time, I think I carried that burden but I managed to live with it. Point is, I have to release it before I ruin my own life with this grief that I have inside that triggers every single time that I feel alone and out of tune.
