Pregnant women around the world need to be careful since they are at higher risk of being inflicted with the deadly H1N1 A influenza virus.
Based on the research conducted by the Motherisk Program at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto and the Japan Drug Information Institute in Pregnancy in Tokyo,
Japan researchers discovered that those in the third trimester are at high risk of serious complications from the H1N1 A influenza virus.
To treat and prevent pregnant women from suffering the deadly  H1N1 A influenza virus, medical experts recommended the intake of oseltamivir, which appears to be the drug of choice because there are more data on its safety in pregnancy.
Dr. Shinya, Head of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at SickKids revealed the groups at high risk of flu-related complications from the novel H1N1 influenza are the same as those for seasonal flu consisting of pregnant women, children under 5 years, the elderly and others such as those with chronic lung conditions.

Pregnant women need to be extra careful these days since they are at higher risk in the deadly H1N1 A Influenza virus.

Meanwhile, medical experts said only small amounts of oseltamivir are excreted into human milk.
The researchers said if an infant is breastfed by the mother on these drugs and needs treatment, the recommended dose of oseltamivir should be given to the infant.
To avoid being inflicted with the deadly disease it would be best for pregnant women to engage in healthy activities such as eating nutritious foods and having enough sleep.

According to a recent study, men are prone to cancer than women are as far as statistics from United Kingdom revealed.

Based on the records from the National Cancer Intelligence Network (NCIN) and Cancer Research UK it was discovered that men are 40 per cent more likely to die of cancer than women are and 16 per cent more likely to get it in the first place.
According to their records, it was also discovered that after excluding breast cancer and cancers that only affect one sex, the difference between men and women was even greater, with men being about 70 per cent more likely to die from cancer than women and over 60 per cent more likely to develop it in the first place.
The researchers revealed even when they excluded lung cancer, which removes the counfounder introduced by the fact more men smoke than women, the underlying figures were the same.
The remaining cancers that were included in the analysis were cancers of the oesophagus, stomach, colorectal, liver, pancreas, kidney, bladder, brain and central nervous system (CNS), non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, malignant melanoma, multiple myeloma and leukaemia.
The team of experts explained more research was needed to understand the gap, but speculated it could be behavioural: perhaps men have unhealthier lifestyles and they do not notice early cancer symptoms, or they are more reluctant to deal with them, whereas women tend to notice them earlier and do not delay in going to the doctor about them.

Men need to be careful since they are more prone to cancer than women according to a study done in the United Kingdom.

For, Alan White, Professor of Men’s Health at Leeds Metropolitan University and Chair of the Men’s Health Forum, the evidence shows that men are generally not aware that, as well as smoking, carrying excess weight around the waist, having a high alcohol intake and a poor diet and their family history all contribute to their increased risk of developing and dying prematurely from cancer, adding that more research needs to be done before we can be sure exactly why this gender gap exists.
White added the report clearly shows that we need to try much harder to get the public, health professionals and the people who make the policies to understand the risks that men face.
He said many of these deaths could be avoided by changes in lifestyle and earlier diagnosis.
Moreover, Professor David Forman of the NCIN said for many of the types of cancer we looked at that affect both sexes, there’s no known biological reason why men should be at a greater risk than women, so we were surprised to see such consistent differences.
Forman said after taking out the effect of age, men were significantly more likely than women to die from every one of the specific types of cancer considered and, apart from melanoma; they were significantly more likely to develop the disease.
He revealed men have a reputation for having a ’stiff upper lip’ and not being as health-conscious as women do.
To get the data, the researchers looked at cancer deaths in the UK for 2007 and new cases categorized by cancer type for 2006.
They summed cancer cases that were not sex-specific and then looked at male and female ratios in each category.

A recent study revealed that women are more sensitive in terms of their physical appearance than men are.

According to the joint research made by the University at Buffalo and the University of Kent, it was discovered that women showed greater sensitivity to appearance rejection than men did.
The researchers revealed based on their study they found out that women have the urge to look attractive so that their peers will accept them.
Lora Park, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology and graduate student Ann Marie DiRaddo, of the University at Buffalo, and Rachel Calogero, Ph.D., a lecturer in psychology at the University of Kent explained their study also showed that men and women who had internalized media ideals of attractiveness had higher levels of appearance-based rejection sensitivity than did their peers.
The research made by the two prominent universities also uncovered the information that both men and women are more concerned on their appearance based on the perception of their peers and the media than what the opinion of their own parents.

Based on a recent study it was discovered that women are more concerned on their appearance than men are.

Moreover, the researchers said their study suggests that when people feel pressure to look attractive, whether from their friends or the media, they may be putting themselves at risk for experiencing negative outcomes that may limit their development and enjoyment of life in many ways.
The two universities gathered the data on the survey of 220 (106 women, 114 men) U.S. college students ranging from 18 to 33 years of age.
Accordingly, the participants responded to a series of questionnaires, including scales that assessed the perceived influence of peers and parents on sensitivity to appearance-based rejection, and the Sociocultural Attitudes Toward Appearance Scale-3, which assesses dimensions of media influence related to body image and appearance.

According to a latest study mothers who are brave enough to admit they are formerly hooked on illegal drugs can achieve good results in their action.

Based on the research conducted by the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada some 3,530 Alberta youth Grades 7 to 12 revealed that teens were more likely to use drugs if they knew that their mothers had used drugs but did not pressure their kids to avoid the illegal practice.
Researcher Lori Harach, a professor of human ecology at the University of Alberta revealed the findings suggest that adolescents might benefit from parental talks about the dangers of drug use, especially when their mothers have experience with drugs.
Harach said factor might give extra credibility to the messaging in the eyes of the teen.
She said mothers who have previous illegal drugs experience should not hide their unfavourable past since opening it could their children valuable lesson to avoid using illegal drugs.
As the saying goes, the best testimony is your own experience.
Mothers around the world should keep in mind that their children would not scorn them if ever they admit using drugs since their children love them deadly.
Instead of being scorned, their children would love them more and will keep away from the things that put their mother in the bad light in the past.

To keep their children away from drug addiction, mothers should be bold enough to admit they are using drugs in the past.

Here is a piece of good news to those people who love to drink half a glass of wine in a daily basis.
A recent study has shown that those people who drink at least half a glass of wine everyday could increase their life span by five more years.
According to the research published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health it was discovered that light long term alcohol consumption of all types-up to 20 g a day- extended life by around two extra years compared with no alcohol at all.
The researchers also discovered that extended life expectancy was slightly less for those who drank more than 20 g.
It was also learned that men who drank only wine, and less than half a glass of it a day, lived around 2.5 years longer than those who drank beer and spirits, and almost five years longer than those who drank no alcohol at all.
The findings were based on 1,373 randomly selected men whose cardiovascular health and life expectancy at age 50 were repeatedly monitored between 1960 and 2000.

Wine drinkers who drink half a glass of the liquor everyday could increase their life expectancy by five more years according to a recent study.

The team of experts conducted the research by looking into how much alcohol the men drank, what type it was, and over what period, in a bid to assess whether this had any impact on the risks of their dying from cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, and from all causes.
The team also tracked weight and diet, whether the men smoked, and for how long, and checked for the presence of serious illness.
Based on their 40 years of monitoring, 1,130 of the men died. Over half the deaths were caused by cardiovascular disease.
The proportion of men who drank alcohol almost doubled from 45% in 1960 to 86% in 2000, with the proportion of those drinking wine soaring from 2% to 44% during that period.
Furthermore, the researchers found out that drinking wine was strongly associated with a lower risk of dying from coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, and death from all causes.
The researchers said the results of their findings held true, irrespective of socioeconomic status, dietary and other lifestyle habits, factors long thought to influence the association between wine drinking and better health.

Those children who are born more than three months premature have double the expected rate of autism at age two as full-term children, according to a recent research.
In a study published in the Journal of Pediatrics, it was observed that 26 percent of babies born extremely premature had cognitive impairment.
The researchers based on the report also discovered that about one in 10 of the extremely premature infants who did not have other health problems (including cerebral palsy, mental impairment, or vision or hearing problems) tested positive for autism at age two.
The researchers got their data by a survey of the behaviour dubbed the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT).
Accordingly based on the study, not all children who test positive definitely have the brain development disorder.
Autism spectrum disorders (which include a range of diagnoses, from mild to more severe autism) are not typically diagnosed until age three or older, and M-CHAT is not considered a definitive test.
The researchers hope the result of this study should serve as motivation to the parents of extremely premature infants to take good care more of their children to keep them away from chances of suffering from autism.
Parents around the world need to realize that although there is no cure for autism the treatment need to given early before things could get worse.

Parents of extremely premature infants need to be more careful since their babies are at risk of suffering from autism.
